Bennett and Groenewegen disqualified in Dauphiné, Dutchman responds sarcastically: "Sorry for braking"

Dylan Groenewegen (Team Jayco-AlUla) and Sam Bennett (BORA-hansgrohe) have both been relegated in the results of the third stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. Christophe Laporte (Jumbo-Visma) took the victory, but the 'duel' between Groenewegen and Bennett also caught everyone's attention.

Groenewegen made hand gestures towards Bennett just before the finish, as the Dutchman was cut off by the amiable Irishman. Initially, this resulted in a series of hand gestures from Groenewegen, indicating that he himself may have also executed a faulty sprint. The five-time Tour de France stage winner, in fact, delivered a 'push' to Bahrain Victorious sprinter Matevž Govekar.

As a result of the disqualification, Matteo Trentin (UAE Team Emirates) and Milan Menten (Lotto-Dstny) were the ones completing the podium. Bennett and Groenewegen have been relegated to 33rd and 34th place, respectively. After the stage, Groenewegen quickly expressed his thoughts on the incident. "Sorry for braking, UCI," the Amsterdammer says in a sarcastic tweet.
