While his seven teammates focused on the press conference room at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre, Mike Teunissen was busy typing on his phone. Shortly after, it became clear why: the Dutchman sent out a tweet, directed at Schiphol.
"Another day, another Vueling flight incoming from Schiphol," Teunissen quips. "Another day without suitcase, another moment where no one is taking any kind of responsibility, now I know how frustrating it can be, dealing with airports and airlines."
Teunissen's suitcase is still in the Netherlands, which this site asked him about. "I hope it doesn't rain because I don't have any clothes," laughed the rider from Intermarché-Circus-Wanty with a forced smile.
Fortunately, teammate Adrien Petit somewhat saved the day for the Dutchman. Teunissen was walking around on Friday in his French companion's clothes but still hopes that the issue can be resolved quickly. However, that was not the case on Saturday morning. Teunissen reached for his phone again because his suitcase is still at Schiphol. "Now it's really absurd, especially the lack of responsibility, communication and perspective. I have never been so tired before the start of a grand tour. Thanks, Schiphol and Vueling."
