Roglic on beating "good friend" Thomas in Giro: "Friendship won't suffer"

Primoz Roglic managed to win the Giro d'Italia on Sunday after a thrilling duel with Geraint Thomas. The Slovenian of Team Jumbo-Visma is good friends with his rival, as he mentioned during the closing press conference of the Italian race.

"So many emotions were running through me after winning the time trial," Roglic referred once again to the decisive blow he struck on Monte Lussari. "And to add to that, this was also my first time in Rome, where the backdrop is amazing. It makes me incredibly happy, and I have to thank everyone who helped me get here."

Roglic doesn't want to compare Giro victory to other victories

When asked, Roglic didn't want to delve too deeply into his other victories. "I can't compare this victory in the Giro to, for example, the Tour or Vuelta. For me, this season was entirely focused on the Giro."

Roglic also mentioned his victory over his good friend Thomas. "I had hoped it would be easier, but it was a pleasure to fight for the overall victory with Geraint. He is a good friend. However, our friendship won't suffer because of this, it won't have any impact on it."
